Kirkton Farm Wind Turbine

Kirkton Farm wind turbine was developed in partnership with Temporis Wind and Lomond Energy and was successfully granted planning permission by Fife Council in January 2014.

The site is located to the south of Mossmorran Petrochemical works, approximately 3 km south east of Cowdenbeath, Fife with a maximum generating capacity of 500kW, equivalent to the annual electrical consumption of approximately 280 homes.

Lomond Energy managed the project from feasibility, through the screening stage and throughout the planning application stage to consent.

During the planning application phase Lomond Energy successfully overcame an Edinburgh Airport objection in regard to potential visibility to the Edinburgh Airport radar. The objection was removed by reducing the proposed blade tip height from 77m to 67m.

A further objection, from Fife Council Transportation Development Management Team concerning the proposed site entrance location was also successfully removed. This was achieved by submitting a further planning application for a new site entrance and site access route only. This was decided in conjunction with the wind turbine planning application and superseeded the original site access arrangements. This allowed the original planning application to continue and be decided without the need for withdrawl and re-submission.
