Carron Wind Farm Plans Submitted
West Dunbartonshire firm Lomond Energy has submitted its plans for a new wind farm near Carron Bridge, adjacent to the operating turbines at Craigengelt.
The £22m project, planned for land at Easter Craigannet Farm, features six wind turbines of the same size and similar design to those at Craigengelt and has been designed to consolidate the grouping of local wind farms, whilst minimising changes to the local landscape.
Commenting on the proposals, Lomond Energy’s Steve Macken said; “following a comprehensive assessment of the site we’re confident that that Craigannet Wind Farm is the right design in the right place, and have developed the layout to minimise effects on local communities and the environment and to ensure that the turbines would appear as a simple extension to the now established Craigengelt Wind Farm on neighbouring farmland.”
Since the early stages of developing the project, Lomond Energy has engaged with community groups both within the Carron Valley and also further afield, and is committed to continue to engage with local stakeholders now the project is in the planning system.
“We now want to build on the successful theme of community participation in local wind farm projects following on from Fintry’s involvement in the Earlsburn Wind Farm, and have invited local communities to participate in owning a share of this wind farm, the income from which will directly benefit local projects in and around the Carron Valley,” said Mr Macken.
“We have recent experience of working in partnership with Ardishaig community in connection with Allt Dearg wind farm in Argyll which is currently under construction, and now want to bring the same wind farm share ownership opportunities to the Carron Valley and surrounding communities.” He added.
“Lomond Energy is passionate about renewable energy and the true benefits that it can bring not only in tackling climate change and increasing our energy independence, but also to communities in the form of sustainable economic development and local job creation. As the project is being developed by a local firm with local communities set to own a share, we can ensure that a significant portion of future revenue will be retained within the local area”, said Mr Macken.

Local Firm Submits Community Windfarm Plans
Gartocharn based renewables company Lomond Energy has submitted its plans for a windfarm near Bonhill. If successful it will be West Dunbartonshire’s first major green energy project and bring much needed income to fund local community projects.
