Lomond Energy Limited has been shortlisted in the Scottish Green Energy Awards. The company, which was established 8 years ago, has been shortlisted in the Community Initiative category of the prestigious annual awards, with partners Allt Dearg Windfarmers LLP and Ardrishaig Community Trust, for their project in Argyll & Bute in which the community is taking a significant stake in the project.
Lomond Energy has been shortlisted as their project has followed good practice in development and demonstrates broad involvement and support within the community. It also recognises a community-led initiative supporting a commercial project.
Ardrishaig Community Trust was mandated by strong local community support and successfully secured a 1/12th share of the project under an innovative and unique arrangement between this private local developer, local community group and ethical lending partner without any publicly funded support.
Once completed towards the end of 2012 this 10.2MW project, which has just started construction, will be one of the most productive in mainland Britain. Profits generated will help to underpin the future of the two locally owned estates and their employees, support the future regeneration aspirations of the Ardrishaig community, and further the educational opportunities of local young people through the establishment of an Educational Trust Fund.
Steve Macken, Director of Lomond Energy, said “We are delighted to be recognised for our community initiative as it is an area of work we feel passionately about. As a business we feel that communities should benefit from renewable energy developments in their local area and are pleased to be having similar discussions in West Dunbartonshire and Stirlingshire in connection with our proposals for Merkins Windfarm and Craigannet Wind farm.”
